SUMMARY:North Monterey County High School Native Planting
DESCRIPTION:Help restore vital wetland habitat for local endangered species by planting native California plants! \nPublic Planting Day – Saturday\, Feb 17\, from 10 am to 2 pm (rain or shine)\, at the North Monterey County Amphibian Enhancement Project site located at http://tinyurl.com/Native-Planting-Feb17 \n\nThe Central Coast Wetlands Group and Coastal Conservation & Research are partnering with the Watershed Stewardship Program to host this event.  For more information or to RSVP\, visit https://www.eventbrite.com/…/north-monterey-county-high…\n\n\nCome help us plant 750 native California plants throughout a wetland restoration site located behind the North Monterey County High School! Together we will enhance habitat for three local and endangered amphibian species\, the Santa Cruz Long Toed Salamander\, the California Tiger Salamander\, and the California Red Legged Frog. At the same time\, this restoration site is a part of the Moro Cojo watershed\, which then empties into Monterey Bay. The restoration of wetland habitat throughout this watershed will aid in the overall health of Monterey Bay\, by sequestering carbon\, urban\, and agricultural runoff. Reducing the concentration of these pollutants throughout the watershed will also improve the region’s ability to support its once-historic anadromous salmonid populations. \nYou do not have any previous experience working with plants! We will provide gloves and tools for all volunteers and will also provide demos showing everyone how to properly plant these plants! \nBring with you: your water bottle\, long sleeves\, SPF\, a sun hat and closed-toe shoes. \nSnacks and extra water will be provided\, along with all necessary tools and gloves! \nParking and Bathrooms will be located at North Monterey High School. From the parking lot signs will direct you to the check-in table. \nContact marwah.dawody@sjsu.edu or sean.oconnell@sjsu.edu for any additional questions \nHosted by the California Conservation Corps Watershed Stewards Program (WSP) in partnership with AmeriCorps\, Central Coast Wetlands Group\, and Coastal Conservation and Research. \nThe Watershed Stewards Program (WSP) is dedicated to improving watershed health by actively engaging in restoration science\, civic service\, and community education while empowering the next generation of environmental stewards. A program of the California Conservation Corps\, WSP is one of the most productive programs for future employment in the environmental field. WSP is administered by California Volunteers\, the office of the Governor\, and sponsored by AmeriCorps and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.
